Learn Your People

Here’s some homework: Learn your people. Who are your people? Those you’re closest with. Your spouse, kids, parents, siblings, best friends, bosses, coworkers (ok, maybe not always those for all of us). Whoever they are for you, think about a few of them for a minute. You probably know them pretty well and in a lot of cases have known them for all or most of your life, but how much do you really know about how they tick?

We discuss the framework of the 5 Love Languages in this week’s podcast, and it’s made us think a lot about personalities and how people respond differently to the same things (motivation, expectations, confrontation, etc) based on how their minds work. If you can start to learn those intricacies of the ones you’re closest with, you can better understand their behavior (as well as your own) and your relationship and start to improve the ways you live, talk, interact and work with each other.

So let’s start easy. This week, take the 5 Love Languages Quiz yourself, then send it to 3 of your people. Then talk about it! Trust me, it’s actually really fun once you get into it. Once you gain this new awareness of each other, you might be surprised how your perspective on their perspective can change, and help you show and feel the love that much more.

Episode 26: The Languages of Love

Major Topic: Love Languages Ever heard someone talk about what their “love language” is and wondered what they’re talking about? We’re discussing the framework of the 5 Love Languages, what each one is about, and how we can use them to better understand and even improve our relationships.

Ask Coach AWags Jennifer wants to understand why she is always inclined to text instead of call, and how she can stop.

The decluttering never ends!

Cheers to Friends

FRIEND [frend] noun: a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.

Today I honor one of my oldest and dearest friends, Allison Foley. We met in 7th grade and now in 2017, it’s our year to turn 40 years old. Where does the time go? As I mentioned on the podcast this week (where Allison co-hosts), there is nothing like an old friend. When I call her up, it could be days or a year since we talked and it always feels like yesterday. I could be calling about the happiest or the saddest news, and she supports me in every way.

They often say that friends are the family you choose and oh how true! When you have a friend like Allison, treat her well. Make the effort and take care of her because she takes care of you. Allison is one of the most loyal people I have ever met. I just know that in every moment, she is there for me. I can only hope that I have been there for her in the same way.

This week, take some time to connect with an old friend. Make the effort. As adults, we don’t have as much time as we once did. In high school and college, friends were our lives. Now that we are older, we have to make a real effort to keep important friendships alive. Take some time and reach out because friends feed your soul.
